RAM Movie Review
RAM, standing for Rapid Action Mission, is a patriotic action drama. The film was released in theatres today. Produced by Deepika Entertainment and OSM Vision, it is directed by Mihiraam Vynateyaa. Let's find out what the film is about in this review:
Story:
Major Surya Prakash (Rohit) dies a heroic death for the country while battling terrorists in POK. Another Major named JB (Bhanu Chander) remembers his sacrifice. Major Surya Prakash's son Ram (Surya Ayyalasomayajula) does not like serving the country because he wants to chill out and have fun. Ram is bitter that he didn't get to spend time with his loving father.
What are the efforts made by JB to make Ram realize the dream of Surya Prakash? What is the importance of JB's daughter Jahnavi (Dhanya Balakrishna) in this story? What is this Rapid Action Mission all about? Did Ram finally stop the conspiracy of terrorist organizations to kill innocent Indians? How did Ram, who was not nationalistic at all previously, finally transform? That's what the film is about.
Performances:
Debutant Suriya is amazing. When he is a lad who doesn't know what patriotism means, he looks like a typical entertaining hero. But when he is a sincere officer who grew up to be patriotic, the difference shows. He showed a lot of contrast between the two. In the first half, he looks like a normal guy looking for a girl's love. In the second half, he engages the audience in a serious role as a sincere officer burning with passion. Suriya is impressive in multiple ways, showing timidity in lighter scenes and heroism in action scenes. Bhanuchander was seen with full energy. Sai Kumar and Subhaleka Sudhakar are seen as a security chief and an MP, respectively. Heroine Dhanya Balakrishna is limited to fun scenes. Ravi Varma as a terrorist, Meena Vasu, Amit Kumar Tiwari (as another terrorist) and the rest of the artists are good.
Analysis:
This is not a novel film by any reckoning. We have seen many stories set against the backdrop of terrorism. But this film stands out in other ways. The narration is impressive. A fictional Hindustan Intra Defense is shown. How covert activists and sleeper cells have infiltrated all departments and sections of the economy has been shown well. The role of politicians in engendering terror networks has been brought out. The backdrop of Pakistan-backed terrorism and the role played by some traitorous individuals has been shown.
The climax is where the emotions come to the fore to the fullest extent. Every single Indian should be shocked to see these scenes. The shot where the Tricolor flag is visible, and the shot showing a Muslim character with the Hindu hero, and the Bharat Mata Ki Jai sentiment are superb.
Ashrit Iyengar's background music is decent. Cinematographer Dhaaran Sukre does an average job.
