Guntur Kaaram Review, Rating
After 12 long years, Mahesh Babu and ace director Trivikram Srinivas reunite. Their combination (SSMB 28), titled as Guntur Kaaram, raises the expectations. The film is hitting the screens today, ahead of Sankranthi festival. Let's see what worked and what did not.
Story
Ramana (Mahesh Babu) is estranged son of minister Vasundhara (Ramya Krishna). Seeing political threat to her younger son, Ramana is asked to sign papers declaring no authority over Vasundhara's properties and her legacy. Ramana insists on speaking to her mother Vasundhara. He expresses his love for his mother but gets rejected. How Ramana reunite with his mother Vasundhara and what are the challenges he come across in between form the crux of the story.
Analysis
Mahesh Babu sparks up the screen. His fiery performance and energetic dances rescue the film to some extent. He carries the film on his shoulders with his charm. Mahesh and Sreeleela shine. They have set screens ablaze when shaking leg for 'Kurchi Madapetti' song. Very thin point and weak conflict make Guntur Kaaram a tedious wacth. Shockingly, writer-director Trivikram's writing in this film is underwhelming. It is not upto Trivikram's mark or standards. Thaman's backrgound music is just okay. The action scenes are well-shot. Mahesh pulls off single-handedly.
The drama is stretched out. Especially, the second-half of Guntur Kaaram is a disappointment and turns out to be a patience-tester. On the whole, Guntur Kaaram has commercial elements and Mahesh Babu's towering personality and Sreeleela's glamour quotient. It is passable due to Sankranthi festival.
