Fans Furious as Meena Refuses to Act with 63-year-old Matinee Idol

Veteran Tamil actor Ramarajan, who was a popular hero in Kollywood for over two decades until 2001, is making a comeback to the big screen after 12 years with the film 'Saamaniyan'. Meanwhile, reports suggest that top actress Meena has refused to play the female lead character opposite him, causing a stir in the Tamil film industry.

Ramarajan, 63, was involved in a road accident in December 2010, where he narrowly escaped with his life but suffered multiple injuries. The actor, who made his debut as a hero in 1986, had a remarkable run in the industry. His 18th film 'Karagatakaran' became a super hit, running for 100 days in 25 theatres, 360 days in eight theatres, and 400 days in four theatres. Ramarajan acted as the lead in 45 films and garnered a massive fan following, with Ilaiyaraaja's music in most of his movies.

In 'Saamaniyan', Ramarajan is playing the role of a lawyer. He is reuniting with the music maestro Ilaiyaraaja after a gap of 23 years. He had thought Meena would be an apt choice to play his partner in 'Saamaniyan', but the senior actress has declined the offer for undisclosed reasons.

The senior actor has given competition to senior Kollywood stars like Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. Meena is facing a backlash from his fans for her refusal to act with him. They question whether she would have made the same decision if offered a role in Rajinikanth's film.

Tamil film industry is abuzz with speculations as Meena has not yet responded to the controversy. Ramarajan ventured into politics in 1998. He contested the Lok Sabha elections from Tiruchendur constituency on an AIADMK ticket. He secured a victory with a massive majority and subsequently served as a Member of Parliament.
