Amidst The Paris Riots, Fans Wish For BTS’ V And Park Bo Gum’s Safety
V, a member of BTS, travelled to Paris on June 30 to carry out his duties. Similarly, it was seen that actor Park Bo Gum left South Korea to go to the Celine Homme Summer 24 fashion show. Hedi Slimane, however, confirmed the cancellation of the menswear show via a note on his Instagram due to the dangers of the situation in France. It is also known that the French brand hosted an after-party following the fashion show to celebrate the debut of the new collection, which has now been cancelled.
Hedi Slimane, the brand's creative director, announced that the menswear show that was scheduled to take place in Paris has been cancelled because it would be inconsiderate given the ongoing riots in the country. He continued by saying that it wasn't an easy choice to make, but he did it for the safety of everyone involved, including the guests.
BTS member V previously announced on his own Instagram that he will be attending the event by revealing the invitation and tagging the brand. He also shared pictures from his visit, showing his excitement for the fashion show. After the show's cancellation was announced, V didn't offer an update. Additionally, Park Bo Gum hasn't given his opinion on the matter.
Disruption in France
The ongoing situation is a result of the continued protests by the people of France who have taken to the streets around multiple cities retaliating against the death of a teenager by a police official. The citizens are asking for a change in the laws claiming racism as the purpose behind the death. The young boy named Nahel aged 17 is said to be of Algerian-Moroccan descent and was shot by a police officer at a traffic stop in Nanterre in Paris.
The official has been charged with homicide and placed under detention however the people have been rioting, with arrests exceeding by the minute. As the funeral for the deceased has been scheduled for the same day as the Celine show, netizens have supported the brand's decision to cancel the event respecting the situation.
