Suspended CI and Rape Accused Nageshwara Rao Confesses To Crime
HYDERABAD: Tainted former CI Nageshwara Rao was assigned under-trial (UT) prisoner No.2001 by the Cherlapally Jail authorities on Wednesday. The former CI is accused of raping a woman at gunpoint, kidnapping her along with her husband and attempting to murder them. Nageshwar Rao has been allotted a single cell and provided with high security by the authorities. This decision was taken as some of the criminals he had arrested in the past were also lodged in the same jail.
Vanasthalipuram police arrested Nageshwara Rao on Monday and shifted him to Cherlapalli jail on judicial remand. The police have filed a petition in the court seeking Nageshwar Rao's custody for ten days for further investigation. The police issued notices to Nageshwar Rao in jail on Wednesday. In the remand report submitted by the Vanasthalipuram police to the court, several shocking details were mentioned. In the 32-page remand report, the police have included the facts of the case and the statements of the witnesses.
The police collected the statements of 17 witnesses in the remand report of former CI Nageshwara Rao. A case was registered under Arms Act.
As per the remand report, Nageshwara Rao admitted to the crime in the preliminary investigation itself. He said that he had gone to the house of the victim in Venkataramana Colony in Hastinapuram at around 9.30 pm that day which was recorded in the CCTV cameras.
The court was told that after the incident Nageshwara Rao fled to Bengaluru in Karnataka after learning that a case was registered against him. He was caught on Sunday night when he returned to Hyderabad.
Nageshwara Rao's service revolver and police uniform were deposited in the Maredpally police station, along with the clothes he wore when he committed the crime, which was seized from his house. After the accident, Nageshwara Rao went to his house in Kothapet and washed the clothes himself to remove any traces of evidence. N
It is stated that CCTV camera footage has been collected from many places near the victim's house, on Ibrahimpatnam road, and on the way from there to Kothapet.
The victim’s statement was recorded under Section 161 CrPC and she was sent for medical examination.
According to the remand report, two glasses, hair, and a bed sheet were seized from the victim's house, where the incidence of rape took place. The evidence gathered was sent to the forensic labs for testing.
The police have also recorded statements from those who saw the car accident at the Ibrahimpatnam lake embankment, the mechanics who took the car for repair, and those who were at the victim's house, who were taken as witnesses.
It was brought to the attention of the court that the footage of the victim and her husband traveling in the car belonging to Nageshwar Rao was recorded in the CCTV cameras at BN Reddy Nagar. What comes as a surprise is that CI in a complete misuse of authority had allegedly threatened the couple to leave Hyderabad, or else he would book a brothel case against them. He later forcefully took them in his car to Ibrahimpatnam to send them away from the city. On the way, they met with an accident near Ibrahimpatnam Lake in the early hours of Friday and the couple somehow managed to escape and returned to the city to file a complaint against him.
