NRI Techie Duped Of Rs 65 lakh On Matrimonial Site, Mother And Son Held
HYDERABAD: Jubilee Hills police arrested a mother and son duo on Thursday, who lured an NRI, making him believe their false story which led to them transfer Rs 65 lakh.
According to police, the mother and son were identified as Malavika Devi and Venkateshwara Pranav Lalith Gopal Devati (22) hailing from Rangareddy district created a fake profile on a matrimonial site with name Keerthi Madhavaneni and approached many foreigners who were looking for partners.
She introduced herself as a doctor living in Jubilee Hills and lied that she had many properties. Varun, an NRI from California contacted her after going through her profile.
During regular interaction, she told Varun that her father had died and her mother is torturing her to write property on her name. She sought his help in fighting the case, police said.
She convinced him and made him believe that she could marry him once she won the case. Believing her, over a period of time, he transferred Rs 65 lakh as expenses for hiring advocates and fighting the case.
Varun realized that he was duped when the woman was irresponsive to his messages and started avoiding him. He then approached the police, who arrested Malavika and her son.
The police said the family was involved in similar cases registered in the Nallakunta and Marredpally police stations previously. Further investigation is on.
