Lucknow: Woman Arrested For Smuggling Gold Worth Rs 1.13 Crore In Underwear
Lucknow Customs Police arrested a 22-year-old female student at Lucknow Airport for smuggling gold worth Rs 1.13 crore.
The student hailing from Kolkata was returning from Dubai on an Indigo flight that landed in Lucknow on April 13. The woman's father is a wholesale dealer in rice, said the police.
"The female student was trying to smuggle 2,318 grams of gold which she had concealed in white polythene cover inside her underwear," said the Customs Deputy Commissioner.
The accused woman was produced in court and was then sent to jail. The custom officers told that she was supposed to hand over the gold to a person waiting outside the airport.
This was stated to be the biggest catch from a woman passenger as per custom officials.
