Ford Factory Workers Seek Tamil Nadu Govt Help To Save Jobs
Ford Factory Employees Want the Tamil Nadu Government to Help Them Save Their Jobs
Ford Factory Workers: According to workers and union officials, factory workers at Ford's Chennai plant have asked the state government for assistance in safeguarding their jobs.
By 2022, the American carmaker will cease vehicle and engine production at its Chennai factory in southern India, potentially laying off up to 4,000 employees.
According to reports, Ford's abrupt decision will jeopardise the jobs of over 2,600 permanent employees and over 1,000 contract workers.
O Panneerselvam, the AIADMK's coordinator, has also requested Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin to intervene and save the facility.
Ford announced last week that it would discontinue producing vehicles in India, incurring a $2 billion loss to conclude years of unproductive operations in a country that promised exponential development but failed to deliver.
