World-class Tirupati Rly Station Modernisation Project Picks up Pace
Tirupati: The railway station of the temple town of Tirupati is set to get a face lift on par with global standards. The Ministry of Railways is undertaking the modernisation of the railway station with an estimated cost of Rs 500 crore.
As per the approved master plan, the authorities are developing two G+3 buildings having basements on both north and south sides of the railway station. The works on building new terminals in the south, including foundation casting of air concourse connecting the platforms from (1 to 6 have already been completed. Similarly, parking areas have also been developed.
Meanwhile, the railway authorities have begun demolishing the main entrance to take up the development works in the north of the railway station. Temporary shelters have been set up to avoid inconvenience to the pilgrim passengers who visit the temple town by trains.
The development works on the modernisation project took off after the Ministry of Railways gave its clearance for the project. Efforts are being made to showcase the spiritual identity of Tirupati in the design of the modern railway station. A VIP lounge, food courts, cloak room, waiting hall area and ticket counters are also being developed. The railway station will be equipped with two dozen lifts and escalators each and will have an electronic surveillance system for monitoring the passengers.
Tirupati MP Maddila Gurumoorthy said the YSRCP government is committed to the world-class development of Tirupati railway station. We have incorporated the spirituality factor while making designs for the modernisation project, he added.
