Why Not AP in Indian Team: CM YS Jagan
Amaravati: It’s common for the political parties to think about the concerns of their electorate and take steps to address their issues. But, what is not common is politicians showing their interest in the non-voters - children. However, the country still has once such a leader in the Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy who has often stated that “education is the best asset we could give our children.”
Following an old dictum, ‘today's children are tomorrow's future’, chief minister YS Jagan has not only laid strong foundations in terms of education and related infrastructure for the children of the state, he’s also encouraging the young children, especially from rural areas, to take part in sports activities and give wings to their sporting spirit.
The chief minister is determined to provide required help to the budding athletes to move up the ladder in the sports fields and represent Andhra Pradesh in the Indian sports teams. In that direction, the YSRCP-led Andhra Pradesh government has introduced a mega sports festival called ‘Aadudam Andhra’ or Let’s Play Andhra. Under this programme, the sports authority will conduct multiple sports events for children at village, ward, mandal, district and State level to identify talent at grassroots level.
Starting on December 17, 2023, the sports authority will hold events in five competitive sports like Kabaddi, Cricket, Volleyball, Kho-kho and Badminton. So far over 30.5 lakh players have registered for the events while over 1.36 people have signed up as spectators. The sports authority will distribute nearly 5 lakh sports kits worth Rs 41.43 crores among the players.
The state government has roped in the renowned sportspersons like Ambati Rayudu (cricketer), PV Sindhu (shuttler), Jyoti Surekha, Hanuma Vihari, Jyothi Yarraji, Kona Srikar Bharat and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy to promote the biggest sports festival in the state.
CM YS Jagan has been pushing the young people of the state to excel in their field and the sportsmen who bring laurels to the country and state are getting due recognition. They were not getting recognition during the previous government. Realising the contributions of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, the ace archer who has won six medal in the World Championships, the YS Jagan government offered her a Group 1 posting, equivalent to that of a Deputy Collector cadre.
