TDP twist: Naidu gives shock to candidates
Vijayawada: TDP candidates declared for the forthcoming elections were in for a rude shock on Saturday, when the party leadership announced that their candidature is linked to their performance in the assigned constituency. The party is going to conduct surveys in the constituencies of the candidates in the next 25 days. According to party sources, if the survey results do not favour a particular candidate, the party will replace him or her with a stronger candidate.
A workshop was conducted for the TDP candidates in Vijayawada on Saturday. TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, Jana Sena Party political affairs committee chairman Nadendla Manohar and Pathuri Nagabhushanam from BJP attended the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Naidu said those who could not get the seats have made a sacrifice. We have forged a pre-poll alliance with Jana Sena and BJP for the benefit of the state. Pawan Kalyan took the initiative for an alliance for the sake of state.
As part of the seat-sharing agreement, we could not give tickets to 31 TDP members, Naidu said. They should not think that they were denied tickets because they did not work hard. They have made sacrifices for the betterment of the state. We had to trim down the list of ticket aspirants in the TDP to fulfill the coalition dharma, the TDP chief said.
Emphasising the winnability factor in the crucial elections, Naidu said we had to do a lot of screening to find the most winnable candidate. While the TDP leader comforted the party leaders who did not get the ticket, his words seem to have demoralised the declared candidates.
Subsequently, Nadendla Manohar addressed the gathering and urged the party’s rank and file to work together for the victory of the alliance in the polls. He said if there are any differences among them, the leaderships of both the parties will sit together and resolve them.
