Several Flights Cancelled at Visakhapatnam and Chennai as Cyclone Asani Likely to Recurve
Several airlines have suspended their operations in Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam and Tamilnadu's Chennai on Tuesday in the wake of cyclone Asani as it lays southeast region of Bay of Bengal.
With the probbility of severe cyclonic storm 'Asani' recurving, the India Meterological Department (IMD) on Tuesday predicted rainfall and strong winds in Andhra Prdesh, Odisha and West Bengal.
IndiGo has cancelled 23 flights, both arrivals and departures due to inclement weather, Visakhapatnam International Airport director Srinivs said. He added that "Four AirAsia flights also stand cancelled due to bad weather at Vizag for the day."

While 10 flights including those from Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Jaipur and Mumbai have been cancelled at the Chennai airport. According to the Chennai Airport Authority, passengers were informed about the cancelled flights yesterday.
The SCS Asani lay centered at 0530 hours IST of today near latitude 14.8°N and longitude 84.0°E, 300 km SE of Kakinada, 330 km SSE of Visakhapatnam, 510 km SSW of Gopalpur and 590 km SSW of Puri. It is likely to weaken gradually into a CS during next 24 hours. pic.twitter.com/2FFXEm797f

The officials at Cyclone Warning Centre said, "Cyclone Asani is 330 km south-southeast of Visakhapatnam and likely to move further northwest till tonight, thereafter it'll recurve." They informed that rainfall is likely over northern Andhra Pradesh including Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and East Godavari.

The India Meterological Department predicted light to moderate rainfall from tomorrow, May 11, at a few places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and heavy rainfall at isolated places is likely over coastal Odisha and adjoining coastal West Bengal. The IMD said, sually wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely along and off north Andhra Pradesh coast.
