SC Restrains Naidu from Making Public Statements about FiberNet Case
New Delhi: Supreme Court on Tuesday restrained the TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu from making public statements pertaining to the FiberNet scam case. The court made this observation while hearing a plea moved by Naidu, seeking anticipatory bail in the FiberNet scam case.
A bench of justices Aniruddha Bose and Bela M Trivedi resumed the hearing today. Senior advocate Ranjit Kumar, representing the Andhra Pradesh government, told the court that the TDP leader is making public statements about the case. After hearing the arguments from both sides, Justice Bela asked Senior advocate Sidharth Luthra, counsel of Naidu to file an application and posted the matter for next hearing on January 14, 2024.
The FiberNet scam, in which AP CID has named Naidu as an accused, relates to alleged manipulation of the tender process in awarding a work order under Phase-1 of the AP FiberNet Project, amounting to Rs 330 crore. The previous government allegedly violated rules and manipulated the tender process and favoured the Tera Software firm. The TDP leader approached the apex court after the Andhra Pradesh High Court refused to provide him protection from arrest in the alleged scam case.
While granting bail to Naidu, the apex top court had retained the conditions of bail imposed by the High Court. One of the bail conditions restrains Naidu from making public statements about the case.
