Opposition Has No Respect towards Disha Act: Mekathoti Sucharita
Home Minister Mekathoti Sucharita came down heavily on TDP leaders here on Thursday, stating that the opposition has no respect towards Disha Act, which is why Nara Lokesh had burnt the bill copies.
Speaking to the media after Ramya's family members met the Chief Minister, she said that TDP leaders have been misleading the people, while the state government ensures the safety of women through Disha Act. She demanded the TDP leaders to support the Disha Bill in the Parliament through their MPs to get it cleared by the centre, if they are sincere about the safety of women. Many crimes against women were reported even during the TDP rule, but the previous government didn’t put any effort to bring an Act like Disha for protecting women.
She slammed Nara Lokesh for trying to politicise every incident and said that he has very minimal understanding of law enforcement. She clarified that the state police have been working in the spirit of the Disha Act, although the Act has not yet come into force. The Home Minister stated that the accused in the Narasaraopet case was arrested immediately and a charge sheet was filed within a week, but the opposition leader Lokesh is trying to politicise the issue after seven months of the incident.
Further, Minister Sucharita assured that the state government will always stand by the victim Ramya’s family and already provided assistance by paying Rs 10 lakhs, offering a job as junior assistant to Ramya's sister, and sanctioned a house site of five cents and five acres of land to the family. She said that the Chief Minister had directed to provide the compensation within 10 days and establish a fast track court if possible in this case to punish the accused at the earliest.
