Anantapur: A couple was doused with petrol and set ablaze while they were sleeping in the open in Tadipatri mandal in Anantapur district on Saturday night. The couple and a young girl have sustained severe burns in the attack.

According to sources, Nallapureddy and his wife Saraswati are working as labourers in Srinidhi black stone polishing factory. Around 11.30 pm on Saturday night, their relative Ramesh Reddy, poured petrol on the couple during their sleep. Before they come to their senses, Ramesh lit the fire and the flames soon engulfed the cot the couple were sleeping in and a young girl Poojitha, who was sleeping nearby also received burn injuries.

All the three injured persons were rushed to Kurnool hospital where they are undergoing treatment. The injured couple had admonished Ramesh for his drinking habit and demanded him to quit consuming alcohol.
