Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal Defers Hearing to 2 Months

 - Sakshi Post

New Delhi: Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal (KWDT) adjourned the hearing  on the issue of new terms of reference (ToR) for two months on Wednesday. The hearing was scheduled to take place on November 22 and 23 but the tribunal has posted the matter to January 22.

Days after the Union Cabinet had approved the terms of reference for the tribunal, the Andhra Pradesh government had sought time to examine the ToR, therefore the KWDT had posted further hearings to November 22 (Wednesday).

In October, Union minister Anurag Thakur had told reporters that the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal will allocate water on a project-wise basis for projects in both states that are intended for developmental or future purposes.

Following the gazette notification issued by the Union Jal Shakti ministry on the fresh terms of reference of the KWDT-II to reallocate the Krishna waters between the riparian states Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the Andhra Pradesh moved the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the proceedings of the KWDT-II given the new ToR, however, the apex court refused and posted the matter for further hearing on November 29, 2023.
