VISAKHAPATNAM/AMARAVATI:  Information technology giant Infosys has officially announced that the company will foray into four tier-II cities, including Visakhapatnam in the State of Andhra Pradesh.  They plan to initially start a unit with a 1,000 seating capacity.  Infosys Global Infrastructure Head Neeladri Prasad Mishra, Regional head Amol Kulkarni, and other officials announced the decision after they met AP Minister for IT and Industries Gudivada Amarnath on Friday.

Infosys officials said they were looking at available buildings near Madhuravada for a plug-and-play unit, which will be set up in an area of about one lakh square feet. They would look into the possibility of having their own building after starting initial operations in Visakhapatnam, they said.

Minister Gudivada Amarnath told Sakshi that Infosys had initially come forward to set up a unit with a capacity of about 1,000 seats. They plan to expand it from the current 1,000 seats to 3,000 more in the near future, he said. The Minister said that Visakhapatnam has all the potential to grow as an IT capital and hoped that with the arrival of Infosys, many IT Giants would come and establish companies here. He said that 25 per cent of the IT professionals working internationally are Telugus and the government will provide full support along with skilled human resources to those who set up units here.

Work is already in full swing to set up a Rs 14,500 Crore Integrated Data Center coming up near Madhuravada by the Adanis. The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority had recently accorded its approval to the layout plan for the proposed Adani Integrated Data Centre Park in 130 acres of land in Madhurawada which was approved by the State Government.
