AMARAVATI: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday issued orders releasing Rs 1,323 crore for the construction of 3,38,144 houses for the poor people of the state. Incidentally, these were the arrears from the previous TDP regime led by Chandrababu Naidu which were withheld thereby depriving the poor of realizing their dream of owning a house. The chief minister made this announcement during a review meeting he held on the construction of houses for the poor in the state.

Chief Minister YS Jagan, while issuing orders releasing the funds, made it clear to the authorities that the process of clearing the arrears should be made without giving scope for any lapse. He also directed the officials that a date for the payments should be announced once the funds are mobilised. Housing Minister Cherukuwada Sri Ranganatha Raju, Principal Secretary Ajay Jain and other officials have attended the meeting.

YS Jagan also issued orders that the construction of 15 lakh houses be taken up in the first phase. He directed that the number of houses to be constructed in the districts of Nellore, Vizag, and Kurnool should be increased in the first phase.

He also enquired about the facilities provided in a house fully constructed as per the design. To this, the officials briefed the chief minister that the facilities such as a bedroom, living room, toilet, and verandah are included in the design. He also told officials that standards in quality should be maintained in the construction of houses.

YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said, "We have started this massive programme with the aim of providing a house for the poor. This programme should continue with the utmost transparency and quality.

“We are undertaking other mammoth programmes such as the distribution of pattas besides housing for the poor like never before in the history,” YS Jagan said.

He also reviewed the distribution of pattas to the poor which was launched on the occasion of Late YS Rajashekhara Reddy’s birth anniversary. He said that the pattas should be given to the beneficiaries right at the housing sites.
