APSRTC To Decide On Interstate Bus Services Today

AMARAVATI:  The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) which resumed its operations from May 21 after prolonged lockdown period has gained an income of Rs. 29.44 crore till date after resuming services across the state.  

Chief Secretary Nilam Sawhney has written letters to Telangana, Karnataka and Odisha to run inter-state services. The AP government will take a final decision on interstate transportation facilities on Sunday, June7. Meanwhile, during the lockdown period, the RTC has incurred a loss of Rs 1,200 crore.

Out of Rs 29.44 crores income earned by APSRTC, around Rs 58 lakh was earned through online payment and offline revenue shares of Rs 1.26 crore.

Before the lockdown, only about 12 per cent of bookings were made online. However, it seems people preferred online transactions after the COVID-19 outbreak and online ticket bookings constituted 32 per cent. An average of 1,922 ground booking points were served for offline ticket bookings.

Initially, the APSRTC had resumed only 17 per cent of operations. It earned an average income of Rs. 1.84 crore per day. On an average, around 8.05 lakh buses travel per day across the state and gained an average income of Rs. 7,955 per bus.  

The APSRTC has been planning to increase bus services from Monday. The number of seats will be reduced in all the buses to follow physical distancing to contain the spread of coronavirus.

APSRTC possesses more than 14,000 buses, which includes all types of services, but it is making use of only 2,323 buses per day, on an average. Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) resumed operations with 70 per cent buses. However, the occupancy of TS buses were less than 20 per cent but APSRTC achieved an average of 49 per cent occupancy.
