Krishna Dt: Undeterred by strict laws and measures, people still marry their children off in our country. A child marriage in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh has come to a year days after the marriage was solemnised.

According to reports, a class 7 student, who is identified as Keerthana, a native of Puritigadda village in Challapalli mandal was married to a 30-year-old Praveen Kumar of Shardanagar in Machilipatnam last year. Last month,  the minor girl fell ill after an advanced stage of pregnancy and her condition deteriorated as her pregnancy progressed.

As the pregnant teen’s condition worsened, her mother-in-law took her to a nearby clinic. The mother-in-law told the doctor she was not a minor. After the girl’s examination, the doctor told her attendants that it’s a high-risk pregnancy and referred the patient to Vijayawada government hospital on August 14.

On August 15, the baby died in the womb of the girl and a day later the mother died. The next day, the girl’s husband and mother-in-law performed her last rites in a discreet manner.
