Andhra Govt to Issue Notification for Nandi Natakotsavalu Soon
Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to hold the prestigious theatre festival ‘Nandi Natakotsavalu’ this year, State Film, TV and Theatre Development Corporation Chairman Posani Krishna Murali said on Tuesday. He said only the best performing artistes will get recognition and awards.
Addressing the media persons here, Posani and FDC Managing Director Vijaya Kumar Reddy said the Nandi Awards functions were held between 1998 and 2004 in the united Andhra Pradesh and the theatre festival was confined to Hyderabad only.
The former chief minister Chandrababu Naidu promised to conduct ‘Nandi Natakotsavalu’ but cancelled it. However, the current chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has decided to give Nandi Awards this year, he said.
Posani further said since it is difficult to give away all the Film, TV and Theatre awards together, therefore, the government has decided to first give the awards in the Padya Natakalu category. He said later on awards will be given in other categories.
While Vijaya Kumar Reddy said the state government would issue the notification soon and there will be a 30 days window to submit the applications from the date of notification. He said initially the awards will be given in five categories — Padya Natakalu, Social Plays, Social Playlets, Children Playlets and Youth Playlets. The state government will give away a total of 73 awards across these categories, he added.
