Sunil Chhethri Equals Messi, Becomes Second Highest Goal Scorer
Sunil Chhetri, Indian foot ball team skipper becomes the second highest goal scorer among active players in International matches, equaling Aregentine superstar Lionel Messi. Chhetri and Messi are now sharing 21st place in the all-time list of goal scorers as well. With 64 goals each, Chhetri and Messi are in the second place among the active players while Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, is first with 81 goals to his name.In terms of number of goals per match, Chhetri is better than Messi, scoring on an average 0.62 goals per match as against 0.52 of Messi. The Indian has also a better goal average than Cristiano’s 0.54 per match.
Asked about his feat, Chhetri said, "It's unfair to compare myself with Messi and Cristiano. I am a big fan of both. They are much bigger stars. I just want to score as many goals as possible for my country.”
Earlier the Indian football team has won the intercontinental cup by beating Kenya 2-0 at the Mumbai Football Arena on Sunday.
