Family Picnic Turns Tragic As Selfie Obsession Leads To Drowning

Deaths caused selfie obsession continues unabated as in yet another case, two people were found dead while six others went missing after accidentally falling into river Ghagra in Ealauchi village under Tikait Nagar police station area of Barabanki near Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh.

On Sunday, a family of eight people, who gathered for a family function in Barabanki, was on a picnic when the unfortunate incident happened.

According to the police, two of them slipped on the banks of the river, while attempting to take selfies. While trying to rescue them, all the remaining six people drowned in the river.

"Two people died in the accident while six others are still missing and are feared to have drowned. We have recovered two dead bodies which were identified as those of Amjad Ali (50) and his wife Zeenat (45), both residents of Telibagh in Lucknow. Six others who had jumped into the river while trying to save these two are missing. The search operation is currently in progress and we are trying to trace them. We have deployed divers to look for them and see if there are any bodies in the deep," VP Shrivastava, Barabanki SP said.
