Newlywed Woman Ends Life To Become One With Jesus Christ
Kakinada: A newly-wed woman committed suicide at her home at Georgepet in Thallarevu mandal in East Godavari district on Tuesday. Gayatridevi was a staunch devotee of Jesus Christ and she told family members very often that she wanted to be one with the Lord by leaving her physical body.
The 20-year-old woman, the second of Addenki Venkataramana's three daughters, got married to Yalla Satyamurthy of Suryanarayanapuram near Kakinada on November 25. While her mother Satyaveni converted to Christianity some 18 years ago, Gayatridevi also changed her faith fours years back. The family would visit a church in UKV Nagar. Gayatri became so obsessed with Jesus Christ in the recent past that she used to tell her mother that she wanted to die and merge with the Lord.
Worried about her mental condition, Gayatri's parents arranged her marriage with Satyamurthy who also belonged to a Christian family hoping that she would get better after marriage. After wedding, her husband took her to Yanam on Sunday for sightseeing and returned to his house from his in-laws’ place in the evening.
After her husband left, Gayatri turned moody but was always absorbed in prayers. On Tuesday morning, the family wanted pray, but the woman went inside her bedroom on some pretext. As she did not come out of the room for a long time, they grew suspicious and broke open the door to find her hanging from a ceiling fan. They rushed her to a hospital in a critical condition but she was declared brought dead by the doctors.
Thallarevu Tehsildar Loda Joseph and Korangi SI Sumanth visited the victim's house and an investigation is on.
3 Women Ended Lives In Similar Case In July
Three women - two sisters and a daughter of one of them - committed suicide with a similar wish to merge in Jesus Christ on July 9, 2017 at Neelayyathotaveedhi in Karapa. Karedla Chandram's daughters Rasamsetty Satyaveni(48), Satti Dhanalakshmi(40) and her daughter Satti Vaishnavi(18) hanged themselves in their house after prayers. They also claimed that they would merge in Jesus Christ after ending their lives. While the case remained a mystery even after four months, the latest incident further created distress among the Christian community in the district.
