New Union Minister Forgets His Own Name While Taking Oath of Office 

New Delhi: An embarrassing mistake occurred during the swearing-in ceremony of newly reshuffled Union Council of Ministry on Tuesday at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
Narendramodi’s government, eyeing the poll-bound states of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur had undertaken an expansion of its Union Council of Ministers with 19 new faces representing each of these states.

Ramdas started reading out the oath of office and secrecy, but without pronouncing his name. Then President corrected him, saying, “Apna naam boliye (say your name)” to which Ramdas paused for a moment and realizing the blooper, corrected himself saying “Sorry, sorry” and completed his oath-taking.

Ramdas Athawale, Rajya Sabha member from Maharashtra, has also found space in the Tuesday’s Cabinet expansion. While taking the oath as Minister of State, the senior Republican Party of India (RPI) leader Ramdas, (56), forgot to mention his name, but the Dalit leader was quickly corrected by the President Pranabh Mukharjee.

Five Ministers were dropped from the Union Council of Ministers including Nihalchand, Ram Shankar Katheria, Sanwar Lal Jat, Manuskhbhai Vasva and MK Kundaria while senior Ministers like Arun Jaitley, Rajnath Singh, Manohar Parrikar and Sushma Swaraj retained their cabinet posts. Prakash Javadekar, who currently serves as MoS Environment, has been elevated to the Cabinet rank.
