Nepalese visiting India required to carry ID cards: Report

Kathmandu: Nepalese travelling to India are now required to carry identity cards with them, amid increased security arrangements at border areas in view of the Independence Day on August 15.

India’s Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) made the request to the aspiring Nepali visitors through the Nepal Police, Baitadi District Police Office was quoted by media as saying.

DSP Mohan Prasad Pokharel said that those without proper ID cards would be turned back from the border points. According to the SSB, security has also been tightened at Jhulaghat, the border area in Baitadi, according to Nepal’s Rastriya Samachar Samiti news agency. However, identification is not needed in the bordering markets like Jhulaghat, Dharchula and Pithauragadh.

It has been made necessary for other places of India such as Delhi and Mumbai, according to the border security agency.
