Tributes Paid To Sardar Patel On National Unity Day 2019
Kevadiya: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid floral tributes to Sardar Vallbhai Patel at the Statue Of Unity here on the occasion of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on Thursday. The 182-metre-tall statue of the National leader was inaugurated by Modi on the same date last year.
As the prime minister was offering floral tributes to the statue of Patel, flower petals were also showered on the world's tallest statue by an Indian Air Force helicopter.
Sardar Patel's birth anniversary which falls on October 31st is celebrated as "Rashtriya Ekta Diwas" since 2014 and observed as the National Unity Day.
The Prime Minister will address the nation and later participate in the "Ekta Diwas Parade", visit a technology demonstration site, and interact with civil service probationers at Kevadiya.
President Ram Nath Kovind, Union Home Minister Amit Shah among others on Thursday paid tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 144th birth anniversary in the national capital here.
Kovind, Shah, Union cabinet minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal accompanied by senior Home Ministry officials, paid floral tributes at Patel's statue located at the Patel Chowk here.
India's first Home Minister, Patel is credited for merger of over 560 states into the Union of India.
As part of celebrations, various programmes are being organised across the country, recalling Sardar Patel's contribution to unification of India. (PTI)
