Opulence At Its Best ! Rs 20 Crore Durga Idol Made Of Gold In Kolkota Pandal
Kolkata: In what could be a first of its sorts a Durga idol made of 50 kg gold worth Rs 20 Crore is getting ready for dispaly at a pandal in Central Kolkata.

The 13-feet tall idol is coming up at the famed Santosh Mitra Square, near the Sealdah Railway station, which in all probabilities would make it "The Destination" for devotees to visit during the Navaratri celebrations which starts from October 4.
What one needs to know is that the local jewellers have got together and spent their own money to make the idol, said the community president Pradip Ghosh.
Once the pooja is over, they will take back the gold after the customary immersion. Funding has also come in from several multi-national corporates.
This is not the first time that they have spent such huge amounts to decorate the goddess, in 2017, they had draped goddess Durga in a gold saree. In 2018, a silver chariot was made for her. The community secretary expresses happiness that they were able to provide livelihood to many gold artisans who were in need of work.
