The Curious Case Of Sparkling Blue Waves In Chennai

Chennai: People enjoying their evening in the beaches of Chennai's East Coast Road had a treat to their eyes when they saw sparkling blue waves hitting the shore.
Beach visitors were left in awe with the sight. Beaches where this rare occurrence took place in Chennai were Thiruvanmiyur beach, the Palavakkam beach, and the Injambakkam beach.
This rare phenomenan is called the Bioluminescence. It is also called as 'sea sparkle'.
Experts opine that this rare occurrence could be harmful for marine life as they come in area where there is oxygen deficit and the phenomenon is also linked to warming of ocean currents due to climate change.
