New Delhi: After Union Home minister Amit Shah moved the proposal to revoke Article 370 and Article 35A in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, photoshopped SMS' and Whatsapp posts messages talking about land for sale in Jammu and Kashmir began circulating on social media and went viral in no time.

Some of the messages posted on WhatsApp and Facebook offered lands at prime locations in Srinagar like Lal Chowk at dirt-cheap rates ranging from Rs 11-14 lakh.

These messages were circulated all over India leading to a speculation that the states were now opened for realty sales.

Though there has been no proper notification or clarification by the government about the status this message, spread wild fire.

As reported in India Today, which conducted a reality check on these realty ads it was concluded that these advertisements posted on social media were hoaxes. After calling up one of the numbers in the ad, the representative said that this was a hoax and that their name was being misused. They had already filed a complaint with the cyber crime cell.

What You Need To Know

With revocation of the 1954 Presidential proclamation through the government Gazette notification, Article 35A now ceases to exist. Article 35A is known as the Permanent Residents Law. It deprives the state's female residents of property rights if they marry an 'outsider' or somebody who is not a permanent resident of J&K.

Now after Article 35A is revoked and with the special status gone, anyone in India will be able to buy property and settle permanently in J&K. But given the present situation and the law still in the nascent stage and we have to wait for a proper official notification whether or not we can buy property. (With inputs from India Today)
