AP Chief Minister Pays Tributes To APJ Abdul Kalam On Death Anniversary

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Saturday remembered the contributions of 'Missile man of India' APJ Abdul Kalam in the field of science and technology on his fourth death anniversary.

YS Jagan tweeted, "My humble tribute to the Missile man of India, former President Sri #APJAbdulKalam ji on his death anniversary. His enormous contribution in the field of science and technology will always be remembered. Kalam ji's teachings continue to inspire millions."

Fondly called as the 'People's President', Kalam became the president of India in 2002 and served till 2007.

In 1997, Kalam was conferred India's highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna for his contribution to the scientific research and modernisation of defence technology in India. He was the recipient of the Von Braun Award from the National Space Society “to recognise excellence in the management and leadership of a space-related project” in 2013.

His role was vital in India’s Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998, the first since the original nuclear test by India in 1974.

Born on October 15, 1931, Kalam passed away on 27 July, 2015 at IIM Shillong while delivering a lecture to students. HIs funeral was held in his hometown in Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu.
