Hyderabad: Your ATM could also dispense fake currency notes. Beware! Recently, in Lucknow, five ATMs of a private bank were audited and fake Rs 2,000 notes were found.

How the event unfolded?

The private bank received complaints from customers that certain ATMs were dispensing fake notes. The bank asked CMS Infosystem Limited, which has partnered with various banks to keep an audit, found out that the claims were true.

The agency scrutinised all ATMs of the private banks and in about 20 days seized 213 fake notes of Rs 2,000 across 5 ATMs. It was found out that all the notes had the same serial numbers.

An FIR has been registered against unidentified persons by CMS Infosystem Limited with the Vibhuti Khand police for possessing and trafficking counterfeit currency.

Tips to Identify Fake Notes:

1. The front side of the note is the part having Mahatma Gandhi's face. There will be a dark rectangular image on with Rs 2,000 written on it in raised print.

2. On holding the white part of the note and raising it against the light, Gandhi's picture and Rs 2,000 will be clearly visible.

3. On a security thread, the word 'Bharat' is written in Hindi. The thread changes from green to blue when the note is tilted.

4. Also in raised print, there will be seven angular bleed lines on the left and right edges of the front side of the note.

5. RBI will be written on the glasses of Gandhi's spectacles. This will be visible with a magnifying glass.
