India Surgical Strike Viral Video On WhatsApp Is Fake
A video game’s old clip has been making the rounds on the Internet and on WhatsApp claiming it to be the live video of the Indian Air Force’s strike on JeM terror camps in Pakistan carried out in the early hours of Tuesday. The strike took place at 0330 hours when a group of 10 Mirage 2000 fighter jets took off to head across the Line of Control (LOC) and destroy major Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) launch pads.
In this context, there has been a video that has been making the rounds on Facebook, Twitter and Whatsapp claiming to be from the site of the strike, but in actuality is not.
A news website found the origin of the video on facebook with the title ‘Really Short Engagement (ft. Taliban) – Apache Gunner FLIR Cam #6 – Arma 2’. ARMA 2 is a military video simulation game. The description to the video on Youtube reads, ‘Gunner perspective in the US Army Apache during battle, using FLIR camera with M230 sound mod. Like real life. Become part of the CREW – share, comment & subscribe!’
The footage that is shared on social media can be seen 20 seconds into the youtube video.
Here’s a tweet from the website that broke the video down:
