Jayalalithaa Medical Expenses Revealed

Medical expenses of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J. Jayalalithaa who died on 5 December 2016 were finally released today. UK-based doctor Richard Beale, government doctor Dr. P. Balaji, critical care consultant at Apollo Hospitals said that the total amount spent on Jayalalitha's hospitalisation was Rs 6.85 Crore for the 75 days she was in hospital.

Jayalalithaa, who was hospitalized on 22 September was in intensive care unit (ICU) with a non-invasive ventilator which was removed after her condition improved. Later, when she was moved to the room, she was on respiratory support. Doctors said that she had sepsis a bacterial infection and later died of a cardiac arrest. After she suffered a cardiac arrest on 4 Decembershe was given cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) but CPR failed was put on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). But her heart stopped working and she died at 11.30 PM on 5 December.

For her physiotherapy a Singapore Hospital was paid Rs 1.29 Crore , for her family's stay ( Sasikala and family) another 1.24 Crore was spent and for Jayalalithaa's food alone RS 1.17 Crore was spent .
