I Will Be Assassinated; BJP After My life, Claims Kejriwal
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal made a shocking claim on Saturday that he will be assassinated like former prime minister Indira Gandhi by his own security personnel.
Speaking to a Punjabi news channel, Kejriwal said BJP was after his life and would get him murdered one day. “The BJP would get me murdered by my own PSO (personal security officer) one day like Indira Gandhi. My own security officers report to BJP,” he told the news channel.
Kejriwal made these comments on the sidelines of election campaign in Punjab, where his party is contesting all seats in the State.
Referring to a recent unsavoury incident in which Kejriwal was slapped by a man during campaigning in Delhi and police calling it a handiwork of a “disgruntled AAP worker”, he said: “I will be murdered and police would say it was a disgruntled party worker. What does it mean, if a Congress worker is angry with Captain saab (Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh) can he hit him, if a BJP worker is angry with Modi ji (Prime Minister Narendra Modi), can he hit him?”
The Delhi Police responded immediately after the statement made by Kejriwal circulated on the media. It said the Delhi Police was equipped with well-trained security persons who were committed to highest levels of professionalism and dedication to their duties.
“The unit has been providing security cover commendably for several high dignitaries of all political parties. The security personnel posted in the security team of honourable CM, Delhi are equally well committed to their duties," said Anil Mittal, Additional PRO of Delhi Police.
Kejriwal’s stunning claim drew responses from politicians, media personalities, and Twitter users. #Kerjiwalassassinationclaim was among the top trends on Twitter. Minister of State for Home Affairs and BJP leader Kiren Rijiju hit out at Kejriwal by calling his statement as reprehensible.
“Arvind Kejriwal ji has crossed all the limits of political insanity and human impulsivity. How can a Chief Minister make such reprehensible statement? We are political rivals not enemies! Security of the nation and its citizens is the responsibility of the Govt,” he tweeted.
Kejriwal has been at the receiving end of enraged opposition parties’ supporters and disgruntled AAP workers who expressed their ire against him by hurling shoes, throwing ink, and slapping him during his campaigns. His current remarks comes close on the heels of a “disgruntled AAP worker”, according to police, slapping him by getting onto the open-top jeep when Kejriwal was campaigning during elections in Delhi.
