Narayana College Students Ransack Hostel After Locking Staff In Office
Hyderabad: Enraged over the excessive strictness by the management and low quality food at the hostel, the students of Narayana Junior College in Nizampet ransacked the hostel after locking the staff in a room on Tuesday night.
Trouble broke out when the warden of the hostel refused to sanction sick leave to a student. Other students came in support of him and argument between the students and the warden turned noisy. When other staff members came into the warden's office, the students locked them in the room and went on a rampage on all three floors of the building.
The students broke the glass panes of windows, damaged furniture and other equipment. Some of them also tried to set the furniture thrown out of the building. However, the police who arrived on receiving a call from the staff thwarted further rampage.
The students even pelted stones on the police when they tried to enter the campus. However, the police brought the situation under control with much difficulty.
The KPHB inspector said it was unwarranted on the part of students to behave in such a rude manner. "If they really need a leave and the hostel authorities do not sanction, they can very well call their parents or other officials for the same. But this kind of behavior is not good for them in their student years. The college management and parents should try to inculcate patience among the students."
No arrests were made.
