New Delhi: The Union Government has appointed governors to several states. A notification to this effect was released on Wednesday.

Najma Heptullah, who had recently resigned from the Union cabinet on age grounds, has been appointed Governor of Manipur. She would be the 18th Governor of the tiny state. The state would go to elections next February.

Banwarilal Purohit, a thee-time MP and owner of Nagpur-based daily Hitavada, was appointed Governor of Assam. VP Singh Badnor took over as Punjab governor, while senior BJP leader Jagadish Mukhi has been made lieutinent Governor of Andaman and Nicobar.
