Muthulakshmi hits out at Ram Gopal Varma over biopic on Veerappan
Chennai: V Muthulakshmi, wife of late sandalwood smuggler Veerappan, has criticized film director Ram Gopal Varma for the way he made bilingual flick ‘Villadhi Villain Veerappan.’ She has appealed Tamil audience not to watch the movie as it’s totally baseless and no connection with the true story of her husband Veerappan. Muthulakshmi has claimed that Varma had portrayed her husband in an improper way.
Speaking to the media, Muthulakshmi said: “Being Veerappan’s wife, I only know my husband’s personal life. I really do not know how this film director Varma has made this movie. I have lived with him (Veerappan) for four years and my two daughters were born in the forest. Nobody knows his personal life and his background. I appeal to people not to watch this movie. What does Varma know about Veerappan?”
Ram Gopal Varma made the biopic on Veerappan in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil languages. Tamil version Villadi Villain Veerappan movie released on Friday in Tamil Nadu.
“Ram Gopal Varma told me that he would make a movie on Veerappan in Hindi and I signed on the relevant documents also. I don’t know English, so Varma easily deceived me. Contrary to what he told me, Varma started releasing the movie in all languages one after another,” criticizes Muthulakshmi.
Koose Muniswamy Veerappan, popularly known as Veerappan, was active for more than 30 years in the scrub lands and forests in the states of Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu.
She further alleged that the movie was not a true portrayal of her husband and addressed him in ‘improper terms’ without due respect and wondered if they would do so had Veerappan been alive. “No one knows about Veerappan’s 36 years of exile and consequences led to that situation. Tamil people will very soon come to know of real facts about Veerappan. No one has guts to make a film on Veerappan with true story as it involves full of political and Police elements.

Muthulakshmi said: “He (Vijay Kumar) joined the final leg of the search. Initially, it was (former IG) Devaram. After that, several police officials joined the search. If Devaram had written that book, I would have accepted it. Veerappan was poisoned before killing him in a more dramatic way. Vijay Kumar claimed he killed Veerappan in an encounter.”
