Mumbaikars Come Forward To Clean City’s Dirtiest Beach

Mumbai: Mumbai's Versova beach, considered one of the dirtiest, got a facelift thanks to the people's participation. Nature lovers and environmentalists have put their hands together to remove five million kgs of garbage.
The country's richest civic body — the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has helped the citizens clean up the beach.
According to the pollution control board, Versova beach is one of the dirtiest with the pollution levels almost 13 times above safe limit.
Places like Girgaum Chowpatty, Nariman Point, Juhu Beach, Mahim Bay, Worli Sea Face, Dadar Chowpatty, Gateway of India, Malabar Hill were all listed under the bad category.
Photographs posted on Twitter by Mumbaikars showed how the situation has improved after the cleanliness drive for 85 weeks.
Afroz Shah, A 33-year-old lawyer initiated the drive by mobilising people and explaining the need for cleaning the beach. After the Versova beach success, the lawyer is planning to do the same with other beaches in Mumbai.
