Movie Review: Ghazi

Film world is now going back to period films. Ghazi, based on the sinking of Pak submarine off Vizag coast during the 1971 Indo-Pak war, is a war film. It's cast and debutant director Sankalp Reddy have raised lot of curiosity. Let's see, how the film fares in reality.

The film is the story of India's naval heroes who sank PNS Ghazi, which is out to destroy India's iconic aircraft carrier INS Vikranth. India deploys S 21 submarine with

officers like Arjun Varma (Rana Daggubati) to track down the enemy submarine. How they manage to do it forms the crux of the story.

At the outset, one must appreciate the entire tieam for chosing this story. Rana agains proves that he is a dependable actor. He ensures that his image does not overshadow the script. Also, seasoned actors like KK Menon, Atul Kulkarni and Satyadev ensure that the output is taut. All the actors do their bit well and their conversations are absorbing.

On the flip side, at times the films leaves one with the feeling that there isn't enough drama, particularly during the blasting of Pak submarine and the rendition of National Anthem. Another drawback is that though this is a war film, there is less war and more talk. Taapse is wasted in her role. It would have been better if she rejected the offer.

Technically, the film is sound and picture-perfect. Madhu's cinematography by Madhie gives a Hollywood touch to the film. The art department and the VFX department do a great job.

Director Sankalp Reddy deserves major credit for making such an engaging film and come to think of it, it's his debut film. He sure has a bright future.

Verdict

Ghazi is a gripping film that offers edge-of-the-seat entertainment. It's a must watch for the sheer fun of it.
