Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has postponed the MLC elections to March 20 instead of March 17. The schedule was modified on Saturday. The elections are being held to fill 10 seats of Legislative Councils in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. MLAs will elect the candidates to fill the vacancies.

The ECI has also postponed the date of counting of votes from March 15 to March 20 for graduate and teacher constituencies, whereas the date of counting votes for MLC election from local bodies remains March 20 as scheduled earlier.

The dates are modified in order to prevent the results of one category MLCs which has the influence on the category MLC results whose counting was scheduled later.

The notification for these elections will be issued on February 28 and the last date to submit the nominations will be March 7.
