Under mounting pressure from his family and villagers, a Class IX student was forced to marry his brother’s widowed wife.

Patna: A pall of gloom descended on Vinoba Nagar village near Gaya after a family defied Nitish Kumar government's campaign to end child marriage and dowry practices in the state.

A family forced a 15-year-old boy in Bihar to marry his widowed sister-in-law who's 10 years older to him.

Under mounting pressure from his family and villagers, a Class IX student was forced to marry his brother's widowed wife. The woman, identitied as Ruby Devi, has two kids.

The frustrated youth went home soon after the marriage ceremony, and hanged himself to death. The victim has been identified as Mahadev Kumar. The victim was upset after being married to a woman who he treated as his own mother.

The police has lodged an FIR under various sections of the child marriage act and named all the nine witnesses who were part of the ceremony as accused in the case.
