Minister holds out slippers for Rahul Gandhi

The Vice President of Congress, Rahul Gandhi visited the rain-hit Chennai along with his party men on Tuesday. However his slippers seem to grab quite some attention.

Rahul Gandhi was touring the flood-hit Puducherry. What caught the eye was a gesture by Former Union Minister V Narayanasamy where he was seen holding slippers for the young leader.

Rahul Gandhi took off his shoes before stepping into the rain water. However Narayanasamy was quick to offer his own slippers to Rahul, who slipped into them without much thought or fuss.

Narayanasamy served as the Minister of State in the Manmohan Singh Cabinet and is currently a parliamentary member representing Pudicherry from Rahul’s party. He told reporters he held out his slippers as an act of civility for Rahul Gandhi as he was walking barefoot in the water.

Onlookers however added that Rahul Gandhi too was chivalrous enough to hold his own shoes while walking around in the rain water the entire time instead of handling them to his security staff.

Besides Pudicherry, Rahul Gandhi, Narayanasamy and other party leaders visited the rain-battered Chennai and met the victims who are still struggling to cope with the aftermath of the floods.
