Mega laddu weighing 6,300 kg offered to Ganesh in AP
Seeking to break the Guinness World Records set for making a massive 5.5 tonne 'laddu', a sweetmaker from Tapeswaram in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh this year prepared a mega laddu weighing 6,300 kg, which was offered to Lord Ganesh in Rajahmundhry at Pushkar Ghat.
The 6.3 tonne laddu made by Sri Bhaktanjaneya Sweets took nine hours time--which the sweet shop owner Saladi Srinu Babu claimed of not only being the massive laddu, but also of getting prepared in a short span of time which itself was a record.
Last year, a laddu weighing 5,570 kg made by the same sweetmaker and offered by a real estate developer to a Vinayaka idol in Visakhapatnam during the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations and had record books for being the largest laddu.
Srinu Babu said he along with 13 other staff members prepared the 6,300 kg laddu this year following an order received by Rajahmundry-based Ganesh Utsav Samithi which offered the huge laddu to Vinayaka idol installed at Pushkar Ghat on the banks of river Godavari.
The Samithi sought to set a new world record by offering 6,300 kg laddu to the elephant god this year, Srinu said.
The mega 'laddu' was prepared with ingredients including 2,000 kilos sugar,1,800 kgs besan, 1,500 kgs ghee, 400 kgs dry fruits among others, he added.
The sweet was said to have been prepared with an approximate cost between Rs 7-10 lakhs.
Another Taspeswaram-based sweet maker Surchi Foods has prepared a six-foot diameter, 3,500 kg laddu as a special offering to Khairtabad Ganesh in Hyderabad, which was handed over to the pandal organisers after performing of pooja by Governor E S L Narasimhan yesterday.
The organisers of different Ganesh pandals in Hyderabad carry out laddu auction on the final day of 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations and the proceeds are used for welfare measures.
