MBT president Khayam khan is dead

Hyderabad: The president of the Majlis Bachao Tahreek (MBT) party Dr. Khayam Khan (53) passed away on Thursday at the Yashoda hospital in Hyderabad following a massive cardiac arrest. He served as the party president from July 2013 to April 1 2016.

Dr. Khayam Khan, an MBBS graduate from Kashmir University, was the eldest son of the party founder Amanullah Khan. Amanullah founded the party in 1992 after breaking away from Majlis-e-Itehadul Muslimeen (MIM) due to its soft stand on the Babri Masjid demolition and nepotism. Khayam took charge as the party chief in July 2013 after its former president Adam Malik died of a heart attack.

The funeral processions saw a huge gathering of well-wishers and party supports. The Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali, Congress MLC mohd Ali Shabbir, Zahid Ali Khan, Editor of Siasat and several other leaders were also present at the funeral. The namaz-e-janaza (funeral prayer) was held at the Mecca Masjid in the Old City on Friday afternoon.

Dr. Khayam Khan was last seen on Wednesday in a prize distribution function organised by Apollo where his son Dr. Nehad Khan won a bunch of gold medals in MBBS.
