Man throws wife out for delivering girl child

In a case that has shocked the nation and also reaffirms the fear that a girl child is still not welcome, a wife was thrown out of the house for delivery a girl baby. The incident happened in Keesra Mandal on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

It is said that Balayya, a businessman who was married to Swapna for the second time was disappointed that she gave birth to a girl child. Interestingly, his first wife too had given him three daughters.
Sources say Balayya, a scrap dealer got married to Swapna in the hope to get a son. However, all his hopes were dashed when Swapna too delivered a girl baby. Balayya drove his wife out of the house. An angry Swapna sought the help of NGOs and TV channels to protest against her husband's ill-treatment. She also lodged a police complaint, while the women's organizations are demanding that Balayya be arrested.
