Man Found Hanging From Nahargarh Ramparts Opposing Padmavati Release
The Padmavati row is getting deadly. In a shocking incident, a youth ended his life in opposition to the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's period flick Padmavati. He hanged self from the ramparts of historic Nahargarh fort on Friday. By the side of the body "Padmavati Ka Virodh" (In opposition to Padmavati) written with chalk. The incident sent shockwaves. Another message, written on the stones near the fort wall adjacent to the body, read, "Hum putle nahin jalate....latkate hain" (we don't burn effigies, we hang them).
"It is early to comment on it as the matter is under investigation. The identity of the man, around 40-years-old, is yet to be ascertained," Satyendra Singh, DCP Jaipur (North), said. The identity of the person is still unknown.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Padmavati" has been mired in controversies since its shooting started. Activists of the Karni Sena, a Rajput community, besides other groups have been protesting against the movie, claiming the film "distorts" historical facts.
Activists of the Karni Sena earlier this month vandalised a theatre in Kota, Rajasthan, over reports that it was showing a trailer of "Padmavati". A Karni Sena leader threatened actress Deepika Padukone, who plays the lead in the movie, with physical harm.
Meanwhile A group of people on Friday staged a protest outside the Azadpur Metro station in Delhi against Sanjay Leela Bhansali's period drama "Padmavati". The group, Rashtriya Chetna Manch, burnt Bhansali's effigy. Rajput groups and Hindu organisations have alleged distortion of historical facts in the period drama starring Padukone, Shahid Kapur and Ranveer Singh.
In March, the Chittorgarh Fort was vandalised by a group of men who broke mirrors installed at the Padmini Palace. Three mirrors installed at the Padmini Palace were damaged by four-five unidentified men. Protesters had earlier blocked entry into Kumbhalgarh Fort in Rajsamand district and Chittorgarh fort in protest against what they consider a distortion of Rajput queen's sacrifice. The majestic hill fort of Kumbhalgarh is the birthplace of legendary king Maharana Pratap and a Unesco world heritage site, while Padmavati committed her Jouhar (self-immolation) sacrifice along with hundreds of Rajput women in Chittorgarh.
