Man Booked For Raping Pregnant Woman

Thane: A small-time builder in the neighbouring Palghar district allegedly raped a 37-year-old woman and beat her up when she was pregnant, resulting in miscarriage of the foetus, police said today. The 35-year-old man and the woman, who is married, knew each other as they resided in the same locality in Nallasopara area of Vasai in Palghar, they said.

As per a complaint lodged by the woman with the Palghar police on November 17, the man allegedly raped her on several occasions in the last three years and also indulged in unnatural sex with her, a police official said. A few months back, she became pregnant. However, the man allegedly thrashed and kicked her following which she suffered a miscarriage and had to undergo an abortion on November 16, he said.

In her complaint, the woman also alleged that the man threatened her with dire consequences if she informed about the harassment, pregnancy and abortion to anyone, he said. Based on the complaint, the police registered offences against the man under various IPC sections, including 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural sex), 313 (causing miscarriage without woman's consent), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation), the official said.

No arrest has been made so far, he said, adding that a probe was on into the matter. PTI
