Vijayawada: In a major blow to the Andhra Pradesh unit of the Congress party, its East Godavari district president Kandula Durgesh announced that he will be formally joining YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) on December 12.
Stating his decision, Durgesh said that he work towards the victory of YSRCP in the 2019 elections and ensure YS Jagan Mohan Reddy becomes the chief minister.
the elections held after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, the state Congress was routed having failed to win a single Assembly seat. It was only the YSRCP that managed to get sufficient seats to give a tough fight to the TDP-BJP combine.

Consequently, several leaders of Andhra Pradesh started flocking to the YSRCP for its stated stand against corruption and misrule of the TDP.
It may be recalled that another Congress leader Rauthu Surya Prakash Rao had switched loyalty towards the YSRCP in 2014.
