“Maha Samprokshana” performed at Srikurmam temple
The main deity at the sanctum sanctorum of Srikurmam temple in Srikakulam district on Wednesday was offered “Maha Samprokashana” (Cleansing ritual) after an attempt was made to take a replica of the main deity using wax a few days ago.
The temple priests performed the special ritual amidst Vedic hymns. One of the temple priests has been beaten up by the devotees when he tried to create replica for a businessman. The villagers organised demonstrations on the temple premises demanding action against the priest.
The temple was built in 1281 AD and its main deity Sri Kurmanatha, which is the second avatar of Lord Vishnu, Kurma Avatar (Tortoise). The holy place of kumakshetra was actually re-established by Pontiff Sri Ramanujacharya.
